About the Service
Remembering Martin Luther King, Jr. on Sunday, January 16, 2022, will be the focus of our 10 a.m. worship service at Little River. Excerpts from his books and sermons will be shared as we honor his life, ministry, and commitment to racial and social justice in America.
In response to Dr. King’s efforts to integrate public busing service in Montgomery, Alabama, and to forge racial equity throughout the South, the UCC sent the Rev. Andrew Young to assist Dr. King. Rev. Young became a significant member of Dr. King’s inner-circle. At the age of 39 years old while responding to the plight of sanitation workers in Memphis, Tennessee, Dr. King was assassinated while standing on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel. His murder silenced his voice but his influence on the Civil Rights movement expanded and broadened. We remember Dr. King as a champion for justice.
