Homily: “Look Forward”
For many years people waited for the promised coming of their Savior. They looked forward to the change expected when their lives would be improved and conditions that blurred their vision of peace, hope, love, and joy would be cleared. Astronomers gazed at the vast skies in search of a twinkle that signaled an imminent change. For generations faithful believers endured hardship, tyranny, and denied opportunities. Yet, they never lost hope. We continue to look forward to God's promise of salvation.
What do you look forward to seeing or happening? Do you anticipate a cosmic shift that will produce sparkling stars in the midnight sky? What wonders do you wish to behold? Is your imagination stirred by the possibility of unforeseen events? Do you look forward to the fulfillment of a change that was promised and prophesied so many years ago?
Is peace possible? Does hope energize? Can love prevail? Is joy exclaimed? Ah! Indeed, this is Advent. We look forward to the most significant event in human history: the birth of Jesus Christ. Christmas is near.
