Juneteenth

According to the White House proclamation last year, Juneteenth is "a chance to celebrate human freedom, reflect on the grievous and ongoing legacy of slavery, and rededicate ourselves to rooting out the systemic racism that continues to plague our society as we strive to deliver the full promise of America to every American." We encourage LRUCC members to recognize the holiday by participating in local commemorations (see https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/topics/juneteenth for local opportunities and suggested readings), visiting the United Church of Christ website for past Juneteenth webinar recordings (see https://www.ucc.org/event/juneteenth), reading about and reflecting on the history of Juneteenth, slavery, and anti-racist efforts, and/or offering prayers for human freedom and the eradication of racism in our community and society.
