Guest Preacher: Karen Byrne
Rev. Karen S. Byrne is a United Church of Christ minister with standing in the Potomac Association and a graduate of Union Theological Seminary (M.Div. 2007). Prior to entering seminary, she practiced estate planning law for 35 years in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington, DC, where she raised her three children and lives with her spouse, Peter Byrne. Rev. Byrne studied theater and speech at Northwestern University (B.S. 1973, M.A. 1974) and law at the University of Virginia (J.D. 1983). She has served churches in Maine and in Washington, DC, including serving as a seasonal pastor of the Monhegan Island Community Church. She has led spiritual retreats in the Ignatian tradition and self-study discussions based on the UCC’s anti-racism materials. An active member of First Congregational UCC in Washington, DC and the Monhegan Island Community Church, Rev. Byrne is an avid kayaker and gardener.
