Racial Justice Coalition

March 3, 2019

During the recent Coalition meeting folks who are conducting 1:1 conversations with congregants reported on what they are hearing in response to “what’s keeping you up at night?” Many are concerned about climate change; others voiced concerns about the current political climate’s effect on our nation’s institutions, civil society, and our democratic values. Other concerns were voiced as well. All are urged to write Gov. Northam regarding the negative impact of the planned natural gas pipeline on Union Hill, an African American community of historical and cultural importance.

Current volunteer opportunities include tutoring Afghani immigrant families with The Homework Club, which meets on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays at Peace Lutheran Church, and board service with the Fairfax County Alliance for Human Services, which meets at Little River UCC monthly. Speak with the Pastor, Janet Mackey, or Jan Curtis if you are interested in any of these opportunities.

The next meeting will be on April 7 at 11:30 am. Email office@lrucc.org to join the Coalition’s listserv.
