ART AND SPIRIT: Three Meditations
Sunday, 25 April 2010 23:35

Recently my devoutly Catholic mother-in-law complained about the lack of religious symbolism in my life.  No crucifixes or paintings of the holy family hang on my walls.  I own no rosary, and if not for her influence my children would not know how to cross themselves!

You see, in my childhood church, even the plain wooden cross that hung up front would have been verboden to my grandparent’s generation.  Tap water was enough for a baptism.  At prayer we merely bowed our heads.  I didn’t even learn the word "liturgy" until adulthood.
