Tenth Sunday of Pentecost
10:00 am Worship

Sunday, August 13

With so much going on in the world, it's hard to know where to focus. Still, your focus could mean the difference between life and death.

Join us in worship this Sunday at 10 am, as we reflect on where God would have us focus.

This Week

Adult Summer Engagement Series

Sunday, August 13

Technology, Entertainment and Design. These are the three words that make up the acronym TED, a global sharing of wisdom from people working in a variety of vocations and disciplines. This summer, our Adult Faith Formation series will call on TED’s wisdom to open our minds and spirits to respond to our call to work towards justice and peace in our lives, communities, and around the world.

The Christian Education Board has selected a variety of topics to help further our discernment on our congregation’s Mission and Vision Statement. Each week, we will begin at 9:00 am in Room 8 with video and discussion (and end in plenty of time to get to worship). We will share in follow-ups from what we witnessed together, answering the question, "What is God calling us to do with this information?"

All are welcome to the fifth session this Sunday, August 13 as we move on to the topic, “My daughter, Malala,” presented by Pakistani educator Ziauddin Yousafzai. He tells stories from his own life and the life of his daughter, Malala, who was shot by the Taliban in 2012 simply for daring to go to school. Please come and share your thoughts. We will meet for a total of 10 weeks -- ending on September 3 (No meeting on August 20).

Fair Trade Sales

Sunday, August 13

Fair Trade Sales are happening this Sunday, August 13, so plan to stock up on your supplies of coffee, chocolate, and Palestinian olive oil while providing fair compensation to farmers in less-developed countries. A portion of the olive sales supports Tent of Nations and its peace-building programs in the West Bank.

Annual Floor & Carpet Cleaning

Sunday, August 13

The annual floor maintenance will take place on Sunday, August 13 starting at 2:00 pm. The entire church building will be closed and inaccessible until 8:00 am on Monday, August 14. Rise Against Hunger Meal Packing Event

Sunday, September 17

Please save the date for our 6th annual Rise Against Hunger (formerly Stop Hunger Now) meal packing event to help feed children with limited resources around the world. More Church News

Racial Justice Coalition Update

On Sunday, August 6, the Racial Justice Coalition met after worship. The focus of the conversation was on the hate crime we experienced in April as a result of our commitments to diversity and inclusion. In particular, the group had a lively discussion of how Little River might respond to the November trial of Dylan Mahone, who was arrested and charged in this incident. The Coalition welcomes your participation, as well as your feedback about how Little River might continue to expand its hospitality to God's children of every race and ethnicity.

Ministry Board Meeting Update

On Wednesday, August 9, Ministry Board met at church. The main focus of the meeting was coordination of the program calendar through the end of 2017. During the meeting, the Board also received updates from the Stewardship Committee and the Associate Pastor Search Committee, as well as reflecting on process improvements in light of technical challenges and coordination mishaps at a recent memorial service. The Board welcomes your feedback about what (if any) technological upgrades may be useful or necessary in the sanctuary. Emails may be sent to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Thank You From the Board of Christian Education

Thanks to the congregation for contributing their thoughts and ideas about what should be included in the Faith Formation of our children and youth. We received 36 responses to each of our two questions: “What are your favorite Bible Stories?” and “What are your favorite church school songs?” The top 5 favorite Bible stories are: Good Samaritan, Noah, Joseph and his Brothers, the Christmas Story and the Beatitudes. The top 5 favorite church school songs are: Jesus Loves Me, This Little Light of Mine, Amazing Grace, He's Got the Whole World in His Hands, and Peace Like a River.

Thank you for your input and support of the Faith Formation programs at Little River! Feel free to become even more involved by volunteering to teach or assist with Church School thereby helping to enrich the lives of our children and youth while deepening the inter-generational connections that strengthen our church.
