Caring – Called to Care Ministry
Called to Care is a lay ministry to supplement the pastors’ ministry to people in times of need. Special training and preparation are required to participate. After an initial training period, a volunteer establishes a long-term, confidential relationship with specific persons having particular needs. The Called to Care provider works closely with the pastoral staff to provide an integrated ministry to the individual or family. Skills needed: Willingness to listen and befriend a person in need. Ability to maintain confidentiality of discussions. Time required: The initial training requires about 8 hours. The group of Called to Care providers meets with the pastoral staff for 1 to 2 hours about every six weeks for mutual support and guidance. Actual interaction while providing ministry varies with the individual situation but is typically 1 to 2 hours per week.
