Infants and Toddlers
Infants and toddlers are welcome in the Infant Care Room staffed by our professional care provider and members of our church. The room is equipped with appropriate toys and equipment. This care is available during all Sunday morning worship services. Parents must complete a sign-in sheet.
Care is available at 11:00 for children ages three to nine who do not wish to attend worship or whose parents attend meetings or class at that hour.
Sunday Morning Worship
Time with Children
Each Sunday during the first worship service, all children age three and older begin the morning by joining the congregation in the sanctuary. The early part of the worship experience includes a special Time with Children when the children may, if they choose, come to the front of the sanctuary. Afterwards, the children may stay in the sanctuary with their families, but most choose to attend church school with their friends. Care is always available for infants and children through age two.
Worship for all Ages
The first Sunday of each month from September through May, children stay in the sanctuary for the whole 9:30 worship service. That service is adapted to their interests and style and is meant to enhance and expand their knowledge of the worship experience. Communion is served and children are welcome to receive the bread and cup at their families' discretion. If their families prefer, after Time with Children young children can participate in a planned activity in the church school wing.
Summer Sunday Worship
During the summer, children age three and older begin worship in our 10:00 service. Following Time with Children, they may remain in worship or join a multi-age activity class provided for children ages three through nine. Care is always available for infants through age two.
Sunday Morning Church School
Godly Play Class
Preschool and pre-reader children are introduced to Bible stories through the Godly Play program at 9:30 following Time with Children in worship.
Seasons of the Spirit Classes
Children in kindergarten through second grade, and in third grade through fifth grade, are invited to attend multi-age active learning classes using Seasons of the Spirit, a lectionary-based curriculum. Children begin in worship at 9:30 and may attend class following Time with Children.
Presentation of Bibles
In recognition of our commitment to nurture children and families in their spiritual quest, we present Bibles at various stages of development. When a child is born, a pastor brings the gift of a children's Bible story book. When a child reaches six years of age, we present a family story Bible, to encourage learning and growing together as a family. When a child reaches eight years of age, members of the family pass a new Bible from eldest to youngest to emphasize the powerful links that strengthen the lives of children when families participate in their spiritual growth. And when a young person is confirmed, we present The Oxford Annotated Bible: New Revised Standard Version.
